Cazenove & Co.

CAT was engaged by Cazenove & Co. to supply a Consultant to work with the Infrastructure team. The Consultant's main responsibility was to work on the first stages of a Windows NT infrastructure to integrate into the existing Novell Netware-based network. CAT Consultants were also responsible for managing a number of projects detailed below.

Conformance Testing: CAT Consultants set this team up from scratch to carry out all conformance testing of applications based on Novell Netware and Windows NT. This team was also responsible for managing, defining and updating all standard builds on existing workstations.

Technology Review and NT Server build for Typesetting Department: The Typesetting department at Cazenove & Co. was isolated from the main Token Ring network. They used Apple Macintosh machines based on EtherTalk, whereas the rest of the company was PC-based on Token Ring. CAT was responsible for conducting a full review of the technology used in the department and making recommendations on how to integrate them into the main Cazenove & Co. network.

Windows NT Workstation standard build: CAT designed and created the initial standard build for NT Workstation within Cazenove to be used as the platform for the RT3 Market Data software. Previously, Cazenove & Co. had only two machines running RT3, both based on Windows 3.11 and MS-DOS 6.22.

Reuters DACS (RTW - Triarch) implementation: A Consultant from CAT was engaged to manage the implementation of Reuters Data Access and Control System (DACS). This allowed Cazenove & Co. to manage the 'permissioning' on the RTW workstations more effectively. CAT was given responsibility for managing third party technical resources, liaising with the internal support function to ensure changes at the desktop were carried out as required and procedures and documentation were updated.

Reuters Trader Workstation (RTW - Triarch) migration: The RTW network at Cazenove & Co. was based on two distributors (Unix machines providing TCP/IP sessions) and had to move to a total of seven distributors to increase fault tolerance. CAT managed and co-ordinated the required changes to the network configuration with internal staff and Reuters engineers.

File Server Rationalisation: The main Trading Floor file server at Cazenove proved unreliable over a period of time. CAT was given responsibility for carrying out a strategic hardware review and for recommending the replacement. This project involved investigation into all possible replacements ranging from a straight tactical hardware upgrade, through to the introduction of 'Super-servers' as part of a strategic consolidation from departmental into enterprise-wide file servers.
