When
Nomura were looking to design and integrate Windows NT Server and
Workstation builds into the existing PC and Unix environment for
the first time, CAT was enaged to provide strategic design and technical
architecture input into this project. CAT personnel formed part
of a team that was responsible for defining the Windows NT strategy,
infrastructure, standard builds, network and domain structure for
Nomura.
CAT's
main responsibilities were to write the Terms of Reference and Technical
Overview documentation as well as to produce a complete task list
and plan the various stages of the project. CAT was also tasked
with the formulation of the strategy for the Windows NT domain model.
Once the design work was completed successfully, a Consultant from
CAT was engaged to carry out the implementation of this domain model
into the Nomura networking environment.
CAT
personnel were also heavily involved in the design of all aspects
of the new PC client, based on Windows NT 4.0. This involved deciding
how best to present core applications to users, defining a default
user profile, local and network security, writing logon scripts
and building an automated installation process. All of this work
was set against the requirement for the new PC client to integrate
seamlessly with the existing UNIX data and applications servers
using NFS and NIS.
CAT
also assisted technical staff at Nomura with the integration of
existing PC applications (there were at least 150) into the new
Windows NT 4.0 environment and the preparation of automated installation
routines using WinInstall.
