CAT
has an extremely successful and long-term relationship with Prudential
and more recently PruTech. CAT personnel have been involved with
all aspects of the technical design and architecture of the standard
PC and server infrastructure and builds deployed by PruTech to the
various businesss units within Prudential.
Below
we highlight some of the roles and responsibilities that CAT has
performed on behalf of Prudential and PruTech.
Technical
Architecture: Responsible for the design, management and overall
governance of all aspects of the development of the standard desktop
and server builds, environments and infrastructure used within Prudential
and PruTech.
More
recently, CAT has been responsible for providing the technical architecture
and design input for a project to replace the Prudential's Help
Desk, Problem and Change Management systems. This is being upgraded
from a Mainframe-based service to one hosted on a Windows NT and
Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure.
In
addition, CAT has been responsible for managing the development
and implementation of various initiatives to reduce the cost of
supporting the standard PC desktop and server environment used by
the Prudential's various business units.
Development
Team Leadership: Responsible for a team of 12 developers, designers
and infrastructure specialists. This role involved planning, resource
scheduling, project reporting to multiple, complex projects and
budget management. CAT was also responsible for carrying out a complete
re-design of the Prudential's Windows NT domain design looking at
the location and number of domain controllers, DHCP and WINS servers
and the implementation of a new Resource domain.
Responsible
for the design, installation and testing of standard workstation
and server builds for a deployment to the entire Prudential branch
network. This involved co-ordinating and managing a team of developers
and infrastructure specialists who were responsible for creating
a standard, automated branch server build based on Windows NT 4.0
and deploying this to more than 90 branches throughout the United
Kingdom.
Technical
Project Management: Responsible for all technical aspects of
migrating 1,500 users from Windows 3.1 to a Windows NT 4.0 standard
build. This involved migrating all users, applications and data
to a new PC desktop, server and network infrastructure, managing
the design, installation, configuration and testing of the server
infrastructure to support the above migration project and liaison
between the business, the project team and technical resources to
ensure all aspects of the technical side of the project were delivered
on time.
